Blogger Chromium Weirdness

I use the following HTML/CSS snippet when I want pre-formatted text with an automatic scroll bar if the text is too wide:

<pre style="border-left: medium solid rgb(127, 127, 127); padding-left:0.5em; width:95%; overflow:auto;"></pre>

It does not work with Blogger and Chromium 10.0.648.204 where it always wraps the text instead of adding the scroll bar. It works with w3schools and Chromium. It works with Blogger and Iceweasel 4.0 (and Firefox, presumably). It even works with Blogger's preview and Chromium.

And that is a really trivial piece of HTML and CSS, too. It's a good thing I'm not trying anything complicated. Hey, maybe that's it! Yeah, maybe some JavaScript will fix it! ^__^

Wave Mysteries

I am totally mystified by Wave's CPU and memory usage. Load a large (over 150 blips) but simple (text only) wave and watch your browser's memory usage soar to 500MB. On my older 2GHz Athlon 64, CPU usage hits 98%! What on earth is Wave doing that needs that much resources just to display lots of text? Since Wave is still alpha software, one hopes that those resource demands will improve, but even a 50% improvement would still be outrageously high.

Too Strange

OK, now this is just strange enough to be true. A woman's three year old daughter buys a full size digger from an online auction site while the mother takes a nap. Of course, my first thought was: who the heck leaves a three old unsupervised? The full story is here.
